George's multi-layered luminous watercolor of a tropical bird.

Jackie's painting of a rainy day lady.

One of Bill's latest photographs from a recent hiking adventure.

One of Chris's paintings loaded with healthy veggies.

George's painting from a photo of the harvest in Amish country.
He showed us what we could not see without hurting our eyes,
 the brilliant sun light.

Dave's winter painting using a limited palette.

Don's previously created painting using bright hues
against blended muted tones.

Don's mixed media composition that is resolved using bright colors,
textures, values, lines, shapes and the sense of movement.

Lee's watercolor with variations in color that are both dramatic and
subtle.  She achieves the sense of form in the painting
of the pottery.

Bill's two versions of a scene from a recent hiking tour.
He asked our opinion of which photographic composition has more impact.

Jackie is trying out a different approach to her
painting style using different mixed media
in this cubist-like composition.

Dave's "welcome spring" landscape with vibrant color interaction.

One of Lee's early paintings showing a variety
of shapes and different views of the flowers.

Chris's new pastel composition of plump apples in progress.

Bonnie's River Ice Jam mixed media composition in progress.
(almost complete!)

Vintage Artists, Wednesday, April 11, 2018

Donna continues with a new woodland composition that shows
her experience with drawing light, color, depth and structure.
Jackie continues
with her cubist composition of sea related images.
Louise is working on a botanical study of the lilac.

Don is dramatically changing his drawing with more structure,
color and contrast.
Chris is continuing with her pastel rendering of  the apples adding
shading, highlights and contour.

Continuing with her "river ice jam" mixed media composition,
Bonnie adds linear elements.

It is always a pleasure to have new additions to our vintage artists.
Welcome Louise!  If anyone knows of someone who might
like to join us, please let them know about our meetings.

Another book!
Painting Methods of the Impressionists by Bernard Dunstan, R.A.
Who hasn't been captivated by the luminous color and imagery of the
Impressionists?  Monet, Renoir, Pissaro, Degas, and the post-
Impressionists had similar ideals and objectives in the
construction of their compositions.  Each artist is summarized by their
subject matter, use of color, palette and how they created
their eye-catching compositions.
The book is also a "slice" of art history, examining
Pre-impressionists, Post-impressionists and American artists
in Europe who were associated with the French Impressionists.

See you next Wednesday!

Vintage Artists, April 4, 2018

Donna is working on  a new drawing of the forest.

Don's drawing is progressing with the addition of color,
value and details.

Bonnie is adding depth and value contrasts to her painting.

I only took three pictures of the work last Wednesday although there
were more than three artists attending.  It was a cold day, but that did not
stop us.  We were "lost" in our projects and the progress is evident.

Book of Interest
This selection is from way back.

I kept it because it had good information on the color palettes and
techniques by the Masters.

Studying with the Masters
Lessons from Rubens, Degas, Velazquez,
Monet, Turner, Sargent and Matisse.
by Dean M. Larson
So, if any of these artists appeal to you,
take a look at this book.  It is available through
the Medina County District Library.

See you at the critique on Monday or on
Wednesday!
